Happy New Year

Now It's Monday

Ron and I had a nice Sunday trip to Tulsa and a good visit with mother. She enjoys a hot cup of coffee more than anything we can take her. I watched church with her on TV while Ron went shopping for macho-guy-stuff but came back with two colorful chicken figurines for me:-) We took Tandy and the children to lunch at CiCi's Pizza before we headed home. It was a great day.

SLIM THE AVENGER!

Boss Hog attacked me last night. Slim was on the chain and could only watch. I won the fight but as soon as I got away from the mean rooster, I let Slim off the chain and told her to put Boss Hog away. Slim chased the rooster and herded him into the chicken house and proudly came back to the chain. She knew she had properly avenged me.

FUNNY FUNNY HOPE:-)

Chelle was telling her family about Soccer ball and the new kittens. Four-year-old Hope did not know about the kittens and she exclaimed, “Soccer ball laid kittens?” Hope is so used to eggs hatching around here she just assumes anything born at Granny Annie’s comes out of an egg.

ONE YEAR

We closed on this house a year ago. Yesterday was the anniversary of the closing-from-hell. A year later it proves to be worth the effort. We are teaming with new life (chicks and kittens) and last night we watched the first deer of the season parade across the back of our property with their offspring. Plus, the Chief let me turn the air conditioning on last night. Alleluia!

MAMA SOCCERBALL

Four little kittens, three tails and no mittens. LOL Today I was checking for eggs in the barn and found this surprise -- Soccerball has four babies. Three have tails and only one is tail-less like their Mama. Three are colored gray and white like Soccerball and one looks just like the old stray Tom we thought was gone. Well, maybe gone, but not forgotten now. I have been wondering what Soccerball has been trying to tell me the past few days and now I know. She was saying come look at my children. When I finally found them today, Soccerball watched me brag about them then she went off to have lunch, quite proud of the praise.

DISAPPOINTMENT

I love audio books. The best way for me to do my housework is wearing a headset and listening to an audio book. A lot depends on the story, a lot depends on the narrator. My most recent unabridged book tape had a great story and a great narrator. I have been enthralled for a couple of weeks, listening here and there as time would allow.

This story has been so good that I have dreaded reaching the end. Then it happened -- the story ended in the perfect place in the perfect way but the author went past the ending. A lot of nothing was added and instead of stopping where I believe the book should have ended, there was a droning, yawn inspiring, lengthy addition that I kept listening to, thinking surely it was going somewhere worthwhile. It was not -- it did not -- it was horrible. All of my good times spent listening to this delightful story were somehow ruined by a writer who must have been getting paid by the word.

If only writer and/or narrator had warned, "You may choose to stop the story now at this good part because the rest is only crap thrown in as filler."

FROGGIES IN THE HOLE

I have been wondering what Silkie eggs are good for. They are the perfect size for Froggies In The Hole!
Butter both sides of your bread and cut a hole in the center.
Break the cute little perfect size Silkie egg in the center and toast your bread pieces on the grill . (Bigger eggs spill out onto the grill and make it difficult to evenly toast the bread.)
Toast and turn and toast to your desired egg hardness and serve. Put a dab of jelly or honey on the toasted center. YUMMY!

MORE AWARDS

Yes, this has been the year of Beth with her winning the spelling bees and getting a call-back on the high school presentation of The Music Man and the Masonic Student of the Year award -- but her brothers have also been creeping around winning some awards. Both boys are having a great baseball year and Ryan was selected to pitch their ballgame on Monday night. Ryan and Dillon won awards on Tuesday night for their Middle School Academic team.

All eight of our grandchildren have these grandparents popping their buttons like crazy.

THE YEAR OF BETH

Last night Beth received the Fifth Grade Girls Masonic award for her school. One girl, one boy and one teacher are picked from each elementary school to be presented with this prestigious award. We were so very proud of Beth and glad to be there for the program.

LEFT FOOT

This is a rather blurry picture of Owen. Owen is our little chick born with a curled foot. Ron put a duct tape splint on the foot and we left it on for a couple of days. Owen limped for a while after we removed the splint but now you have to look hard to find him among the other chicks. He is quite normal. Can you see the little splint on his foot in the photo above?

FIVE MORE

Our little Silkie hen Tiger Lily is sitting on a nest. She has five eggs under her and we calculate that these chicks will hatch around May 7th. In a couple of weeks we will put the Easter chicks in the hen house. I wonder what Tiger Lily will do when we introduce these chicks into the flock. She might leave her nest to adopt these. Hopefully we will end up with five more babies to add to the delightful Spring mix.

BIGGEST CATCH

We have been fishing three evenings in a row. We decided the spot under the old iron bridge was the best place. We parked near many cars each time and we saw many fishermen. We gave it our best each evening, but we came home to feast on grilled cheese sandwiches. I guess you could say that I got the biggest catch on the second night. I caught the big iron bridge!

LOOKING GLASSES

I wear three pair of glasses. One pair for computer, one pair for reading and my prescription pair for general use. Our four-year-old granddaughter Hope was here last week. She was in the living room in her pajamas drawing and wanted me to see her artwork. I had just awakened and was frantic trying to find my glasses. Hope said, "Your looking glasses are in the bathroom."

GETTING THERE -- BEING THERE

We try to spend as much time with our mother as we can. We grab every break in our week to drive to Tulsa to see her. It is always hectic trying to plan and find the time to get there. But being there makes it all worthwhile. Being at mother's side, is the most calming event. There is nothing like a quiet visit, seeing her gentle smile, gazing into her all-knowing bright blue eyes, hearing her words of humor and wisdom, and feeling her applause for us in all we do.

HEY MISTER........

Everywhere we go some woman approaches my husband with, "Hey Mister, could you help me with.......this.........that.........the other". And, yes, he helps these women.

Just what is this all about? If I ask for his help I am told not to whine.

Today a lady at the gas station asked him to help her get her gas cap open. The other day a lady at Wal-Mart asked him to reach a top shelf for her. I am not exaggerating when I say it happens all the time.

I have rarely, if ever, stopped a strange man and ask for help. However, if I am to receive assistance out in the world, I guess I'll just have to watch for kindly gentlemen like my husband and learn to say "Hey Mister......"

EASTER MEMORIES

What a glorious and fulfilling Easter! We watched 19 chicks tumble out of eggs into the world. Our grandchildren did good work preparing these incubating chickens and turning them three times a day over spring break. None of the grandchildren could be here for the hatch so Print and Elaine came for a visit and helped us welcome the chicken-children into the world. It was a beautiful day. It was another day of life’s offering of new beginnings.

ROCKING ROLLING PEEPING

Our incubating chicks were due to debut yesterday. We checked all day, even knowing that a watched pot never boils. I went to bed last night and two of the eggs were rocking. I just knew there would be at least two chicks this morning. I dreamed all night of delivering chicks of all sizes and colors. Alas, this morning there are no hatched chicks. However, now I can hear them peeping. I never dreamed we would hear them before we could see them. The eggs are moving and the chicks are peeping. Surely we are about to see them break through the shells. It is an exciting event and I have two cameras ready.

IT WAS GOING TO SNOW!

I only took this picture a few days ago. Our beautiful cherry tree was covered with blossoms. How could we have ever believed that it was going to snow yesterday. Yes, we had huge flakes of falling snow last night. We had turned our heat off and had to start it back up. Will Rogers was right when he said, "If you don't like the weather in Oklahoma, wait around a while and it will change."

HELLO BE BE

BITTY UNO HAS ARRIVED

We are in the pink. Bitty Uno is here. She was born last night around 11:45 in Chicago. She weighed 6lbs and 6oz and was one month early. Mother and child are both doing well. Bitty Uno had to be under special care because she was early, but she is holding her own and breathing normally. We cannot wait to see photo of her. They say she looks just like her dad.

My dear sister left in such a rush to arrive for this grandchild’s birth that she left her packed bag in Kansas. They also left their house doors open and the lights all on. Thankfully they have good friends to help them and thankfully she had two daughters in Chicago so she can borrow everything she will need.

CONGRATULATIONS TO NEW PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS!
