Better Living Through Chemistry

Question two: Saved empty pill bottles? To move or not to move, that is the question. Hundreds of them and it seems such a waste not to utilize them in some way. Suggestions? Yes, the popsicle sticks are gone. Why do I feel that will be the suggestion for the bottles too?

WEDDED BLISS

Here is a photo of Wedded Bliss. Do you think there is a photo of J. Howard Marshall II with his son Pierce Marshall where J.Howard looks as happy as he does in this wedding photo with Anna Nicole Smith? Look at that old man smile! Posted by Picasa

THREE D's

Don

Dennis

As Monica pointed out, Dennis Weaver is the third. How strange -- all three D's.

TALES OF FOOD

It is always uplifting to hear tales of our youngest grandchild's latest. Hope is three and one half years old. She has suddenly gone from refusing to clean her plate to not only cleaning it, but almost eating the plate as well.

Hope is hungry all the time. Instead of saying, "I am hungry" she says "I am food" which means she is hungry.

Yesterday she awoke from her nap saying "I am food". Her mother ask what would Hope like to eat and Hope requested candy. Her mommy told her to get out of bed and she would get her some candy. Hope said, "just bring me my candy here". Snack in bed is probably a lot like breakfast in bed. Needless to say, her mommy did not comply with the requested room service.

Recently, going through my journals, I came across a story about my god daughter when she was almost four. She was visiting our house and was hungry. "I hungee Annie Wannie" Jessi said. I gave her chips. "I still hungee Annie Wannie", I gave her a cookie. "I still hungee" she whined and so we went until I said, "I am out of food" and poor little Jessi looked a me sorrowfully and said, "Well, what am I gonna do about myself?"

I guess this is an age when children naturally begin to feed their growth surges.

IF YOU SELL IT THEY WILL COME

We have sold a lot of "commodities" on eBay since the 15th and mostly big items that people have to come pick up. (Farm implements, etc.) We had the first items picked up Friday and more Sunday.

It is always fun to get to meet the people who buy from us. I love not having to ship items, plus we get to pick other people's brains. A couple came yesterday who sell all kinds of exotic birds. They gave me some good information on my chickens.

Hopefully we can sell a lot of stuff on eBay before we move and before we hold auction here.

USUALLY THREEs

Celebrity deaths usually come in threes.

1.) Don Knotts
2.) Daren McGavin

Who is next or have I missed someone?

I fondly remember both actors.

T.G.I. MONDAY

Thank God It's Monday? What kind of a statement is that? That is the statement of retired persons. Every day is a "TGI" day.

For more than 30 years I would wake up on Mondays and start planning my wardrobe and making work plans. It was stressful. It was painful. It was fun -- fun, mixed in with the stress and pain.

I am not officially "retired" because I'm not yet 65. I had the greatest good fortune to fall in love and marry a man who did not insist, but did encourage me to leave the workplace and he would be willing to support me. That did not compute at first in my type A driven personality. I was planning to reman gainfully employed until I was 70. It literally took me two years after I resigned to quit jumping out of bed in the morning and heading for the panty hose, high heels and suit.

Once in a while, like this morning, I still recall those work years. This morning I am remembering them for the genuine friends that surfaced amid the corporate crap and crud.

Saturday we attended a funeral for one of my previous co-worker's dad. I thought of all the times this friend has been there for me. If I had not been a banker, I would not have met her. We went through bank merger-madness together, bank robbery together, my children's antics, the arrival of her children, special celebrations, happiness, losses, sadness, illness etc., etc.

Coming away from a job with loving, loyal friends is the kind of thing that truly makes careers worthwhile.

Slow To Learn

My daughter told me weeks ago about Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I could not believe a product could do all the things she claimed. Finally yesterday I purchased a couple and tried one out. They are beyond spectacular. So, just in case I'm not the last to know, you really should try these.

Why God made Moms - BRILLIANT answers given by 2nd grade school kids to the following questions.

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you Your mother & not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats alot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home & dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your Mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my Mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

HAPPY PRESIDENT'S DAY

Happy President's Day to one and all. It is a pleasure to look at this picture of all our past Presidents and know each was surrounded in some controversy. As horrible as each scandal or war or economic disaster seemed at the time, our country still stands and continues to grow stronger. We manage to keep hope alive and we live in the best country in the world!

Which one is wrong?

The Wisconsin quarter on the left has an extra leaf and is the improperly minted quarter. If you find one, you better put it away someplace safe.

Poverty

I went to bed last night knowing we were still in abject poverty. We checked our lottery numbers at 10:20 pm and knew none were winners. This morning someone in Lincoln, Nebraska is awaking 365 million dollars richer. We sure had fun spending the winnings until 10:20 pm yesterday.

ANY SUGGESTIONS

Sister-in-law Kass got me started on banana popsicles. I have felt compelled to save the sticks. Now that we are getting ready to move I am left in a quandary about what to do with the sticks. Any suggestions -- be nice :-) Posted by Picasa

Rescue

Hasn't everyone heard the joke about the rescue? People are stranded on a roof in a flood and pray and pray for rescue. They pass up rescuers in a couple of boats and a helicopter because they are waiting for God to rescue them. They drown and go to heaven and ask why God did not rescue them. The reply, "I sent two boats and a helicopter."

Well, people have been frantically crying to find solutions to unwanted pregnancies and end abortion and they have been praying and ranting and now God has sent the morning after pill, (a contraceptive pill, not an abortion pill) but instead of seeing this as a rescue for rape victims, etc., this solution is condemned also. Some people are just never going to be happy until they control every woman's ovaries. Sperm, however, is not sacred and may be spilled indiscriminately. Crazy, crazy world.

Stupid Comments Funny Link

The reporter asked the Whitehouse Press Secretary, "When did you first learn the Vice President was the shooter?" The Shooter!! Doesn't that type of comment cause a mental picture of Vice President Cheney crouched in the trunk of a car with a sniper rifle? Once again I must state that the media is nuts.

Meanwhile, this is funny:

WE'RE MOVING :-)

Okay, it's a deal. The seller signed the contract and now the wheels are in motion. We have our financing ready now the inspections will begin. Assuming nothing horrible is found and in need of repair, we shall continue to progress toward a closing in early April. The seller needs that long to get ready for her move.

I am mentally packing and arranging furniture in the new house. It is a bit difficult to picture since we only saw it with the current owner's possessions everywhere, so I am attempting to picture it empty and put our things in place of hers.

It is going to be great fun to live so near the lake and to be back in this area of Oklahoma a/k/a Green Country.

UPDATING MOTHER

February 8, 2006

Dear Mother:

We are still trying to negotiate on the new house in Oklahoma. The seller is being a bit difficult and we think she sold her house and then decided she really did not want to sell it. Oh well, we will see what happens. I will let you know when we know.

I had such a nice time Monday in Pittsburg. Elenore was scheduled for routine annual tests and it was my privilege to accompany her. It was fun for the medical shoe to be on the other foot for a change with me holding her hand instead of her holding mine. Do not worry, it was all very routine with good results. She heads for Chicago today so you know she is healthy. Instead of "keeping the road hot" she "keeps the airways hot" toward Nora.

It seems that Tandy is still liking his job and progressing nicely. They had another round of tests last week and Tandy sailed through them with no problem. It is awfully nice to see him enjoying his work.

Chelle was pleased to get a call from the church the other night to fill in for someone who was sick. Chelle can throw together a lovely service at a moment's notice and walk away smelling like a rose. I know she sang too and everyone always enjoys hearing her beautiful voice. Chelle is also teaching two hours, one day a week at Kids First. This way she gets to leave Hope for a whole day. Hope can have fun with her peers and Chelle can have escape time fun with her peers.

We will see you soon.

All our Love,

WHERE THE BOYS ARE!

My favorite eBay seller has these Mego Superheros listed under eBay item # 6034080403. Not only does she find and list the greatest vintage eBay items, she is also a clever photographer. These guys may not be in top shape but they are appealing and will have lots of competition. Go look at sellers other stuff. It is all so neat. I also love the Fisher Price school set.  Posted by Picasa

This Might Shock You

M.H. (my husband) is retired military and a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He does NOT ride a motorcycle. None of his friends who are Vietnam Veterans ride motorcycles. Only one of his many retired military friends has long hair and a beard, and even he does not ride a motorcycle. We go to reunions with clean shaven gentlemen who served in the military during the 60's and 70's.

Yesterday a bridge in Tulsa, OK was designated a Vietnam Veteran's bridge. The highlight of the ceremony we heard on the radio was the emphasis of motorcyclists representing the Veterans. You could not hear the speaker for the motorcycles rumbling in the background.

Nope, there is not a thing wrong with people who ride motorcycles, but why don't we stop stereotyping and start picturing Vietnam Veterans as everyday Joes and Josephines? The majority blend into society and I am sure many are like us and drive mini-vans.

OKLAHOMA OR BUST

Thursday we signed a contract on a house in Oklahoma. It is on 9 acres, has over 1700 sq ft with a shop that has about 4,000 sq ft. plus it is less than half a mile from Grand Lake. We talked with the realtor and with the seller and all were in verbal agreement of the contract stipulations. We have our financing secured and now the seller has thrown a wrench in the works. Our realtor is trying to work things out, but we're not very hopeful about that particular house at this point.

We are hopeful about moving out of Kansas into that area of Oklahoma. If we don't get this place, there will be another. We know where we want to be and we are already mentally heading in the direction out of here.

P.S. Oh yes, the chickens will go with us :-)

ACTUALLY TWENTY-NINE

Today Jessi is really 29. Twenty-nine years ago her mother called me on the phone and said, “Ann, my water just broke. Do you think I should call the doctor?”

Here is a poem I wrote for Jessi not so long ago when she was in college.

Happy Birthday Jessi.
You are a special person I know.
It is time this godmother got in gear
And properly told you so.

Jessi is a great collector
Of CDs, of friends, of thoughts.
She concentrates with confidence
On the “haves” never the “have-nots”.

Born a fragile, beautiful Princess
Like Diana, there is grace in the chore
Of pretending to bow and give the lead
To a conspicuous Emperor :-)

Grown more beautiful, less fragile,
As she turns 21 today.
A woman preparing a future
That will change the world some way.

Her religion is found in movies
Different opinions don’t turn her back
THE ENGLISH PATIENT stirred her compassion
Her faith uncovered in CONTACT.

She moves forward in life with resolve.
She rarely requires a shove.
Her giving is without expectation
As she casually lives an example of love.

Happy Birthday Jessi
February 2, 1998
I am so proud to be a part of your life. Love, Ann

And, I am still proud to be a part of your life this birthday, 2006.
